The Original Elaine Idea
"Those bastards at NBC hoarked our script idea before we even finished writing it!"

YES, THOSE WERE OUR CRIES as we watched Kramer fall asleep in the tanning booth back in 1994. By the time we heard "I don't see a white boy. I see a damn fool!" we were hard at work trying to figure out what the hell to do with Elaine in a mall.

Our original idea for Elaine in The Slaw involved a tanning salon in the mall. (Let me tell you, it was hard enough to come up with that. We found it difficult to find a plotline for Elaine, though once we did, it was easy to write her dialogue.) It seemed like the perfect irony — a nice, bright, sunny day, with Elaine going to a tanning booth.

The concept was similar to what happened to Kramer (too similar). We were going to have her fall asleep in the tanning booth. Our catch, though, was that she would have been lying on her side. The result — what would have been spotted immediately by Jerry as the villain "Two-Face," of Batman fame. Tanning salon attendants would have been scrambling to make sure that Elaine saw only her tanned side in any mirror. Kramer, of course, would have given away the problem.

So, were we better off changing the plot? In the long run, probably so. Though we did waste many hours wandering around malls waiting for inspiration to hit us. Thank you, Sunglass Hut.
